Can Large Round Water Tanks Solve our Fresh Water Problems?
The environment continues to be a cause for debate. While some leaders avoid admitting to the probability of environmental problem, other environmental leaders swear that without advanced sustainability efforts, the earth is doomed. The abundance of available drinking water is a current threat to our planet. There are many countries that do not have access to safe drinking water. There are even people in our own country that have dangerous water supplies. Large round water tanks may be an important step in sustaining safe drinking water for many reasons.
Better control of water supply
Large round water tanks allow states and cities to keep better control and inventory of their current water sources. When the water is kept in fresh lakes or rivers, it can easily become contaminated and then, the entire water supply is not safe for consumption. In the United States, there are about 16,000 municipal wastewater treatment facilities in operation. When the wastewater is stored in large round water tanks or above ground water storage containers, they can be treated and managed easier.
Less chance of outside factors ruining the water supply
Above ground tanks ensure that there is less of a chance in an outside factor or source ruining the water. There are actually many things that can ruin an entire supply of water including lead pipe systems, oil spills, and manufacturer dumping. Although many of these factors are illegal, they do still contribute to the world?s problem of lacking water sources. When the water is stored in an off site above ground water tank, there is less chance of these outside factors ruining the water source. Accidents like oil spills will not ruin thousands and thousands of gallons of water supply.
While around 70% of water in the Marcellus Shale gas country in PA is recycled, the remaining wastewater needs to be disposed of. Some water simply needs to be disposed of and cannot be properly recycled. The existence of this water mixed with current drinking supplies can actually ruin the entire supply. A bolted storage tank, however, can make it easier to dispose of the ruined water. The contaminated water can be easily moved to the large round water tanks and once full, they can be removed.
Large round water tank storage could also provide the country with economic benefits. Currently, we rely on other countries for our sources of petroleum. Although there may be petroleum in many of the countries water sources, it can be dangerous to find out. Drilling for petroleum can cause petroleum to make its way into drinking water sources. In 2015, Americans consumed 7.08 billion barrels of petroleum products. An increase in this number could be even more dangerous. If we could move the fresh drinking water sources to large round water tanks that are stored offsite, we could also increase petroleum drilling efforts.
Perhaps the most important of the bolted tank advantages are that they are completely secure. Only specific professionals will have access to the water supplies and this will increase the quality of water that we consume. When you remove the possibility of human and machine error, there is likely to be an increase in drinking water. This could help provide fresh drinking water sources to not only our country, but also to other countries who have very limited supplies.
Despite being surrounded by many large bodies of water, fresh drinking water is something that many struggle with. There are individuals both in other countries and in our own country that do not have access to healthy and uncontaminated drinking water. Many professionals believe that using large round water tanks that are stored above ground could solve a lot of the problems that we currently have with obtaining water. The water would be safer, less contaminated, easier to access, easier to dispose of, and would increase petroleum drilling efforts for our country. The bolted tanks would provide an additional security measure, ensuring that accidents and poor business practices could not ruin the world?s drinking water supply.
