Important Research and Safety Tools for the Laboratory

Laboratory equipment products

Manufacturing plants and research laboratories use a variety of tools on a daily basis. These tools assist with measuring, accurate calculations, and safety. The specific tools that are used in the research and design labs are advancing, almost as quickly as the research itself. As researchers come across new scientific data that needs to be measured, new solutions are made. Currently, the following tools and measuring devices are important to the research laboratories.

New era syringe pumps
The new era syringe pumps are similar to traditional, old school syringes. However, they hold larger volumes of product, making it easier to measure more of a liquid at once. When everything can be measured at one time, the results are often more accurate. The New Era Syringe Pump Systems NE1000 Single Syringe Pump holds one syringe from micro liter sizes up to 60 mL. These larger new era syringe pumps can also be helpful in reducing harmful contaminants in the air. As the liquids are poured into one measurement tool from another, there is a risk. When you only have to make one pour, it is safer and easier to control.

Constant temperature circulators
Some liquids are best if left at a constant temperature. Liquids, like gases, are not actually dangerous until they are heated. Other liquids have the same dangerous results, but at colder temperatures. Constant temperature circulators are important in keeping these temperatures from fluctuating. In some cases, it can be particularly difficult to maintain a liquid?s temperature, so these are really benchmark products. These constant temperature circulators can also be beneficial in measuring liquids at a certain temperature. For example, even if a specific liquid remains on a lower temperature, it can be helpful to measure it and see what happens, at a higher temperature.

Immersion coolers
Immersion coolers are necessary to quickly cool a testable liquid down. There are a few reasons you might need to do this. Firstly, if the liquid is quickly approaching an unsafe temperature, the immersion cooler can bring down the temperature, within seconds. Additionally, the immersion coolers can provide test results for what happens when cool properties are added to a heated temperature of the specific gas being tested. Researchers test a variety of factors and this one might be beneficial. Finally, immersion coolers can reduce the temperature of a liquid prior to storage. Some liquids and gases are best stored at cooler temperatures, to prevent a reaction from occurring.

Chemical fume hoods
Chemical fume hoods also make the research laboratory safer. They are used to keep toxic or irritating vapors out of the general laboratory workspace. General purpose fume hoods typically function with a hood velocity of 100 feet per minute. These hoods are necessary for absolute safety within the lab. Larger hoods with better filtering capabilities are required for more dangerous of gases, or for liquids that could potentially become dangerous with minor errors in mixing. There are multiple types of hood fumes to choose from and they are always being advanced, to provide even more safety to those working in research laboratories.

Research will always be an important part of our world. In fact, between 2012 and 2022, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that 1.3 million scientists and engineers will be needed to replace those that exit the workforce. The BLS projects 2.3 million total job openings in science and engineering occupations from growth and new replacements during this time. We cannot learn and grow, without constant research and testing. To encourage this advanced knowledge and research, we must always have the best measurement and safety tools. Laboratory equipment suppliers are always coming up with new and improved tools to achieve this purpose.
